6 ways to keep your home based business going while you travel ...

Sometimes, we get so caught up with our home-based business that it makes it hard for us to leave. But no matter how busy we can be, we are always entitled to take a break, even a very short one. However, to home-based business owners, being away can be very difficult. A few days may just be a very short time but it is a time that you wouldn?t be able to keep track of customer/client orders and sales in your online store. While it may be hard to think about how your online business is going to hold up you are away, you sometimes need a much-needed break from all the stress and just spend sometime alone or together with your family. There are ways to ensure that your business doesn?t suffer while you take the time away from it.

  1. Plan for emergencies ? You might not think this is a good idea but in many cases, it is best to take a laptop with you. Your trip may be to give yourself a break. But sometimes not knowing how everything is going can cause you even more stress and ruin the vacation. Bringing your laptop doesn?t mean you should be on all the time. In fact, you should limit the amount of time you spend on it to maybe 15 minutes in the morning and then again in the evening. As much as we hate to admit it, there are just those times when something urgent comes up and you just have to deal with it yourself. The rest of the time, you can spend enjoying your trip.
  2. Clear your workload before you leave for your trip ? You do not want to be thinking about all the things you have to do when you get back. You do not want to return and have piles of work to do. Handle everything that needs to be finished beforehand and enjoy the memories of the trip when you get back.
  3. Find a good shopping cart software for your online store ? There are tons of them out there and many of them will let you save yourself a lot of hassle when you need to go on vacation or take time off for personal reasons.?What it does is it puts up a message in your store so that customers will know that you are out and will not be able to attend to them at the moment. They will be informed that heir orders and transactions will be processed once you are back. This way they are well informed and do not attribute the late response to slow processing. Not only that, but some help you create invoices and creating shipping orders to speed up your processing ? and might even allow you to get a co-worker, friend or family member to take over the order processing while you?re gone.
  4. Tell your clients you?re leaving ? If you work as a consultant or provide services to your clients, there?s nothing wrong with letting them know you?re going to be away for a week or two. Let them know personally or put up a note or post that says when you are away and when you are getting back. I am sure that they will understand you took some ?you? time and they?ll still be there when you come back. Also don?t forget to put up a vacation autoresponder on your email account if one is available just to cover all your bases.
  5. Get some help while you?re gone ? Another thing that you can do is to employ someone to keep track of and run your business while you are on a trip. As mentioned before, this could be someone you know well or someone you find via a classifieds ad. However, there may be some issues when you decided to go down this road and you need to proceed with caution. First, you need to find someone you can entrust your business to who is responsible and thinks things through. The person you choose will be in control of everything that goes on while you are not available and you have to know that you can trust him or her to know how to handle things or you?re going to go crazy while you?re gone.Allowing ample time to train that person before you leave is also crucial. If you are able to employ such person, then there shall be no problem leaving work for a trip.
  6. Hire a virtual assistant ? If you are thinking about hiring someone to take over a few tasks and lighten your workload, you can just have them take care of things while you are gone. You?d probably be amazed with how many things one person can accomplish, even if they aren?t in the same city or even country as you! And once you start finding tasks for them to do, you?ll realize there is far more that they can help you with than you first thought. VA?s are equipped with a wide variety of skills that saves you from having to train them from scratch. They also are able to undertake specific tasks on a part-time or full-time basis while keeping your costs low.
