LG Nexus 4 renders leak [Update: more]

Android Central

Update: Added additional image from @evleaks.

Here it is -- the LG Nexus 4. Some official-looking press renders for the much anticipated fourth-gen Nexus phone has emerged via noted Twitter leaker @evleaks. The images confirm what we've already seen from the extensive Belarusian leak of a few weeks ago, while showing us the final rear chassis design. As expected, "with Google" is gone, and in its place is a big old Nexus logo. In addition, LG's "crystal reflection process" back has dots arranged in a speckled pattern, in a possible nod to the original Nexus One live wallpaper.

Also of interest is the software on-screen, which appears to show a slightly redesigned notification tray. It's possible the on-screen image could be a placeholder, however.

It seems this is our clearest look at the Nexus 4 -- and possibly Android 4.2 -- yet. Don't forget we'll be live from New York City next Monday, Oct. 29, to bring you full coverage of Google's new Nexus devices and Android announcements!

akhisingh: channa exogenous: Heli Skiing, Thrilling but Deadly ...

What is heli skiing? You might probably be amazed at how many different kinds of skiing there are.

In general, skiing as a whole can always be dangerous and challenging. There is the snow skiing, the water skiing, and now another form and type of skiing? the heli skiing.

Heli skiing comes from the word skiing and helicopter. The literal analysis of the word would come up with the literal and practical definition for this recreational or sports acivity.

Heli skiing is a term used to denote the practice or action of Alpine skiing with the use of the helicopter. Why the helicopter? You might ask.

The helicopter

Helicopter is used in heli skiing so the skier can be able to gain extreme altitude that would be impossible to be gained or attained by any person without the help of the helicopter.

Heli skiing enables the skier to ski coming off from different and various starting points. Skiing in very remote areas can also be made possible by heli skiing.

As such, heli skiing can be safely and appropriately classified as a very extreme sports. Because heli skiing is mainly done in remote and unlikely places or areas for skiing, the dangers of avalanches is very evident.

Heli skiing is also never free of the dangers posed by the existence of rocks and trees.

The helicopter used for helis skiing is also not the ordinary helicopter used in the modern times. They are specially designed and are used to carrying out the task of helping heli skiers lift up and ski at great heights.

A short history

Heli skiing is an extreme sport developed and introduced in April 1965 in Canada by Hans Gmoser.

Hans Gmoser is an Austrian who migrated to Canada in the 1950s to pursue and chase after greener pastures. Ironically, the man found whiter pasture, because the Canadian state where he got into turned out to be covered with thick snow.

By that time, there are a number of Austrians who went up and posed on top of Mt Everest in the Himalayas. The thrill and excitement aroused the national pride in the extreme sports fanatic, Mr Gmoser.

To have his own participation in the emerging Austrian pride for the heights, Mr Gmoser devised and designed an extreme recreation or sports to lift snow skiers in the Bugaboo Mountains.

Because no one has ever tried it before, he introduced skiing using helicopters to lift up the skier to greater altitudes.

The result was an extreme fun and thrilling exercise. Hel skiing was born.

The modern times

The modern times is characterized by extreme recreation and sports. That is because most people are earning their living through the corporate scene.

Most people are engaged in seats and in front of computers in general to earn their living. That is why the opportunity of going out and sweating it all out through extreme activities in the great otdoors thrill most people.

Heli skiing has it all and more. It can also be too risky and deadly. Experts and less-gutsy people stay away from it because the activity is truly not one to keep your visceral parts at peace.

Linda the Bra Lady: On Bra Sizes, Bra Fitting ... - The Lingerie Addict

A couple of weeks ago, Linda Becker (a.k.a. ?Linda the Bra Lady) had an interview on Good Morning America where she said, among other things, said bra brands were guilty of using ?vanity sizing? to make their customers feel like they had smaller backs and larger chests. Unsurprisingly, this point of view caused a lot of ripples in the lingerie community, most of them negative.

I reached out to Linda almost immediately after the piece aired and asked if she?d be willing to do a follow-up interview on The Lingerie Addict. Not only did she strike a nerve worth exploring, I also know how hard it can be to explain any point in a 2 minute soundbite or 140 character tweet.

Though I briefly considered not publishing our interview ( after all, this is ?old news? by internet standards now), I decided to keep it because I believe it pulls together several different conversations that have been happening a lot in lingerie blogosphere lately, especially among full-bust bloggers. Namely, it brings up the stigma attached to large breasts, bra sizing information/misinformation, the war on plus four, inconsistent sizing between brands, vanity sizing, and who gets to call themselves a bra expert. The vanity sizing issue in particular stuck out to me because it illuminated how much emotion is attached to those numbers inside the tag. I was also very interested on what some of my readers (especially readers who?ve been wearing bras for longer than I have) had to say regarding their personal experiences with any changes in bra sizing.

As for me, my position on bras and bra sizing hasn?t changed. I don?t believe every woman has to wear a bra; no matter your size, it?s an individual choice. I don?t subscribe to any one, true method of bra fitting because every woman?s body is different and there is no formula that will work for 100% of women, 100% of the time. And I don?t unreservedly recommend visiting a bra boutique, department store, or lingerie retailer to get fitted. Aside from the fact that it?s not a realistic option for every woman, I also know from personal experience that professional bra fitters don?t get it right all of the time.

Instead, my perspective is the same as it?s ever been. Learn the 3 ways to tell if your bra is fitting correctly. Calculators, bra fitters, trial-and-error?whatever you choose, the most important thing is to get familiar with how a properly fitting bra feels on your body. Because once you know that, it doesn?t matter what the number on the tag reads, what bra calculator you use, what boutique you visit, or what an expert says?you will always know what fits.

Just in case you?re new to this story, here?s a timeline of everything that?s happened so far:

And now on to my interview with Linda. As always, I?d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

1) Hi Linda! Thanks so much for agreeing to do a follow-up interview here on The Lingerie Addict. I appreciate you sparing some time for me and my readers. I know you?re a busy lady, so let?s jump right into it. After your interview on Good Morning America last week, several bloggers took offense to your use of the phrase ?vanity sizing.? I know how hard it is to convey a point in a 2 minute news clip (or a 140 character soundbite), so why don?t you tell us more about what you meant by that ? both for people who are familiar with the news piece and who haven?t seen it.

About 10 years ago, as I was fitting women day in and day out, I started noticing that a few bras were fitting looser in the back than before. As time went on, I continued to see the trend. A woman who would fit perfectly into a 36 band bra suddenly needed a 32 to get the same fit. In fact, this happened to me! When I moved to New York about eight years ago, I fit into a 36D perfectly. But since bra sizes have changed, I now fit into a 32G in the same brand? and (I?m not afraid to say it) I weigh about ten pounds more now! I?m using the same ?good fit criteria? and brands as before. Bra sizes just changed. I think companies did it so that women could feel like they suddenly have a smaller back. It?s the same with clothing!

Vanity sizing or not, bra sizes changed. But let?s be real. I think it?s naive to think that vanity sizing only exists in clothing and not in bras. I?m also not the first to mention this, as this NY Times article pointed out: ?Women Are Shocked by Their New Bra Size.?

2) I know for a fact that several people were bothered by the headline, ?Bra Sizes are a Scam!? I didn?t watch the live newsclip, but did you ever actually say scam? If so, why that particular word? And, if not, how do you feel about that word being used to describe your view on vanity sizing?

Scam was not my word. Sorry to disappoint! I think the media chose that word to amp up the ?gasp? factor. It?s a bit negative, but I don?t really mind it. It makes women take notice. And what I really want to do is help these women out. Those that have been wearing bras for more than 10 years now deserve to know that sizes have changed, that it?s not just their imagination. I don?t think that announcing that bras sizes have changed is terrible, a ?scam?, or ?calling out? vendors. Industry standards change. It happens. I just think women deserve to know about it. What?s most important to me is helping women find the best fitting bra ? that?s what I?ve been doing since I started more than 25 years ago!

3) Now I haven?t worn a bra for the last 10 years, so I can?t personally speak to if my size has changed lately, but how did you arrive at the conclusion that bras are vanity sized now? Did you compare any bras from the past to bras today? Did you reach out to any lingerie companies? Or is this based on your experience as a bra fitter? And if it based on your personal experience, how would you respond to claims that that?s not a valid way of measuring changes in size?

Thank you for admitting that you haven?t been wearing a bra for more than 10 years. I think a lot of the people trying to stir the pot do not have the same years of experience that I have. I have been fitting bras for over 25 years. I?m not just the namesake of my company. I actually fit women all day long. I have fit literally thousands and thousands of women in bras. Again, my ?good fit? criteria is pretty strict, and has not changed over the years ? including the importance of a snug bra band. After fitting women every single day for 25 years in the same brands? it was impossible not to notice the difference in sizing.

My response to the claims from other fitters saying that experience is not a valid way of measuring changing sizes: really?! I would love to sit down and measure every bra from every company dated from every year for the past ten years? but there?s no need. I?ve been fitting the same bras, the same way, on thousands of women. They?ve changed.

I have been working closely with lingerie and bra manufacturers for years, and they didn?t actually come out and say that their sizes changed to boost sales and egos. It?s my educated guess that bra companies saw the tiny women with full busts on TV and adjusted their bra sizes to help reflect this. Don?t tell me women aren?t vain about their band size. I have women jump for joy when they find out that a 30 or 32 bra fits them better than a 36 or 38. Who doesn?t want to have a slimmer, smaller back?! We?re only human, after all.

4) Have you heard from any bra brands in reply to your interview on Good Morning America? If so, can you share what they had to say?

No. They know I?m right. Bra companies call me up frequently to discuss the way their new styles are fitting, get feedback etc. They know what?s going on. In the end, it?s my job as a bra fitter to adjust to what?s going on in the industry. Also, I never called out anyone in particular. This was an industry change.

5) There have been a lot of new lingerie companies on the scene lately. Do you think the vanity sizing issue applies to all brands and all sizes or is concentrated in certain areas like full bust sizing or European bras or high-end brands or something different? Are there any companies in particular that you believe are now using vanity sizes?

Please remember that I can only comment on brands that I?ve been carrying at my stores. Here?s a list. The brands that have been around for many years are the brands I?m talking about. Although a very few have not changed, the vast majority have. New brands just followed the new standard in the industry, which is a bigger band.

Every brand fits differently, and so does every style within a brand. And no, I won?t start naming ?vanity? brands. HA! I don?t intend to place blame on any bra companies here. I just want to enlighten women to the adjustments that the bra world has made to bra sizes.

6) On a related note, one of the things that comes up a lot around bra sizing is the lack of standardization across brands. And several people have used the GMA piece as an opportunity to reiterate their issues with the plus four size method. Do you think vanity sizing is at all related to either of those things?

Oh, believe me, I wish there was a standardization of bra sizes across the globe, but that?s unlikely to happen. Even if there was a strict set standard that every company followed, different fabrics would fit differently, and each woman?s unique shape would still require a slightly different bra. Until there?s a standard in the shape and size of a woman, I don?t think we can every truly have standard sizing. This is why only a trained fitter is really qualified to fit someone for a bra. But, since not everyone can make it in to a shop, these DIY measuring methods are meant to help them find a place to start and enlighten them to the possibility that they could be a whole new size.

That being said, I?ve supported the War On Plus Four in theory (you and I have tweeted much about this), and I?m glad that women are updating their measuring methods, but there?s also not one standard for measuring either.

For example, my bra fitters go through months of Bra School before they are certified to fit. I used to teach a ?plus 5? method (adding about 5 inches to the underbust measurement) more than ten years ago as a general starting point. When my NYC shop opened about 8 years ago, I started teaching a ?plus 3-5? method. I did this to accommodate some of the changes that bra companies were making to their bra bands. Now, eight years later, I?ve migrated to a ?plus 0 to 3? for certain women. And, my goodness, sometimes my fitters and I even have to subtract inches for women with certain shapes! Some people think that adding four inches to an underbust measurement is never OK for a good bra fit. For most of my customers, this is true. But that?s because I help a lot of very full busted women. Let?s be clear: every bra band needs to be snug to fit properly. But the bigger the bust, the snugger the band needs to be. It?s working harder! A bra size is dependent on the way the bra runs, the material, the brand, and the woman?s size, age and comfort. And there ARE women who need to add more than zero inches to get a good fit.

Good fitters know, and I know, that measuring the underbust and adding inches (or not) is just basic a guideline for a bra size starting point, and that there is no one-method-fits-all way to do it. As fitters, we take into account a million more factors than just this one measurement.

7) Another conversation that?s coming up a lot now is how bra sizes are getting bigger. Several newspapers in the UK just published a piece saying the average British woman?s bra size has gone up from a 34B to a 34DD. Do you think that?s because of vanity sizing or are women?s breasts actually getting larger? Or are the two things even related at all?

I think both things could be happening. For one (and remember, I live in the USA where the average dress size has also gone up), breasts are getting bigger, and girls are getting breasts at a younger age. I?m not a doctor, so I won?t even try to tell you why (though I have several opinions on the matter), but it is happening. Also, I think larger cup sizes are more popular because back sizes fit larger. For a woman who could fit perfectly into a 36D ten years ago, she would now need a 32DDD/F just to get the same cup size in the new back size. I think the vanity sizing was really based more on the notion of a slimmer back and the fuller cup size is a result of that.

I don?t think bra companies thought about what this would do to women who already had small bands and full busts. Suddenly, someone who was a 34DD 10 years ago would now need about a 30G or H. I?m very happy that these D+ sizes exist ? women really needed them before, and they especially need them now. But most women are not used to such high letters. In fact, it?s been a real mission of mine to help women understand that a G cup or up is totally common, now! It?s taken years of ?braducation?, instruction, and care to help women get over the stigma of D+ bras and just wear what fits and supports them best. These letters and numbers mean something to women and their ego, so they are reluctant to pick out a new size themselves. It takes going to a bra shop like mine and being professionally fit to finally get it. But besides great fit, I want these women to understand that bra sizes are different now, and not to feel strange picking out a brand new size.

8) Now that you?ve had a little time since the interview, how are you feeling about it? Anything you wish you could have said differently? Would you say the same thing again? Have you had a spike in visitors to the store? Tell us the fall-out?good and bad!

No regrets!

Of course I wish there was more time in the interview to explain all of the factors that go in to a good fit, or what criteria would cause a woman to have to add inches or not to her underbust measurement, etc. But, I?m aware that a short spot on TV is not the place to try to squeeze in all of the Bra School training. They hit some good points about changing sizes, proper care, etc. I do wish they had shown the before and after fittings and the braducation I taught those young women. Phew! One woman went from a 40DD to a 30K!

Sure we?ve had a few more visits to our online shop and store, but I?m happier to help spread the word about the benefits of a good bra. It?s always nice to have a new outlet to get the word out.

I was a bit surprised about the backlash and misunderstanding from others in the field. I think some people thought that I was saying modern bra sizes aren?t necessary. Not so! I carry those sizes! I think most just don?t have the right frame of reference since they haven?t even been in business for 10 years, which is when things really started changing. Regardless, my stance on proper bra fitting and my passion for helping women has always been very clear, and they should have known that. Regardless of what these other experts think, it?s more important to me that women realize that bra sizes have changed, rather than why.

I think bra sizes have changed. And I think vanity sizing played a part in why it happened. I said it and I?m not taking it back! Vanity sizing or not, it doesn?t matter to me. It?s more important to me that women wear the bra that fits and supports them best, regardless of the size. And it?s extremely important to me to help women navigate the tricky world of bra fitting.

Thanks again for taking the time to talk with TLA readers, Linda! You?ve given us all a lot to think about.

Italian court convicts 7 for no quake warning

(AP) ? An Italian court has convicted seven scientists and experts of failing to adequately warn citizens before an earthquake struck central Italy in 2009, killing more than 300 people.

The court in L'Aquila Monday evening handed down six-year-prison sentences to the defendants, members of a national "Great Risks Commission."

In Italy, convictions aren't definitive until after an appeals trial, so it is unlikely any of the defendants would face jail immediately.

Scientists worldwide had decried the trial as ridiculous, contending that science has no way to predict quakes.

Use the Least Amount of Technology Needed to Get Things Done Quickly

Use the Least Amount of Technology Needed to Get Things Done QuicklyIt's easy to get caught up in all the features of software, and then get lost in the all the various things you can do with it. However, over at Minimal Mac, they suggest it might be best to change your mindset and work with the least amount of tech possible to get things done.

The idea here is to essentially make the most of what you have, and utilize it in a way where you're working without extraneous junk clogging up your workflow. Minimal Mac suggests you completely recalibrate your outlook with a few questions:

Force yourself into the mindset that this is all you have. In other words, imagine this is the last working technology on earth. How would you still get the job done? How would it help you create? How would it help you work? How would it help you survive?

Essentially, it's about working with the exact amount of tools you need?no more and no less. It's not always possible, and your mileage will vary depending on what exactly you need, but it's a good reminder that oftentimes we already have what we need, we just need to use it better. It also fits in nicely with our love of software like Simplenote.

(AP) ? (AP) ? Former Venezuelan Vice President Elias Jaua said Sunday that he met with aging revolutionary icon Fidel Castro for five hours and showed The Associated Press photos of the encounter, quashing persistent rumors that the former Cuban leader was on his deathbed or had suffered a massive stroke.

Jaua also confirmed that the 86-year-old retired Cuban president personally accompanied him to the Hotel Nacional after their meeting Saturday, in which they talked about politics, history, culture and tourism.

"He had the courtesy of bringing me to the hotel," Jaua said Sunday, adding that Castro looked "very well."

Jaua showed a photograph of himself seated in a minibus along with the former Cuban leader, Castro's wife, Dalia Soto del Valle, a hotel executive and several other people. The photo shows Jaua and Castro smiling broadly, and the former Cuban leader is wearing a checked shirt and cowboy hat.

The public appearance was Castro's first in months. A top Hotel Nacional executive told the AP earlier Sunday how Castro had dropped off the Venezuelan guest, then stayed on to chat with hotel staff.

"Fidel Castro was here yesterday, he brought a guest and spoke to workers and hotel leaders for 30 minutes," commercial director Yamila Fuster said. Fuster was not present, but hotel director Antonio Martinez is seated next to Castro in the photo shown by Jaua.

Castro's health has been the subject of intense speculation for years, but the rumors gained force in recent days after he failed to publicly congratulate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a top ally, on his Oct. 7 electoral victory. The former Cuban leader has not appeared since March, when he was shown greeting visiting Pope Benedict XVI, and he has also ceased writing his once-constant opinion pieces, the last of which appeared in June.

Twitter and other social media sites have been abuzz with claims of Castro's demise. Late last week, a Venezuelan doctor purported to have information that Castro had suffered a stroke, but the same doctor has previously claimed knowledge that turned out to be false.

Sunday's news from the Hotel Nacional appeared to be Cuba's attempt to hit back against what it says are false and malicious rumors. A letter attributed to Castro was published Thursday by Cuban state media. In it, he congratulated graduates of a medical school on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

Two close family members of Castro have also recently denied he is in grave condition. Juanita Castro, the former leader's sister, told the AP in Miami that reports of her brother's condition are "pure rumors" and "absurd."

Son Alex Castro told a reporter for a weekly Cuban newspaper that his father "is well, going about his daily life."

Castro stepped down in 2006 following a severe illness, handing power to his brother Raul.

Adopting two unrelated kids at the same time - Adoption.com Forums

Strange question of the day: Is it possible to adopt two unrelated kids at the same time (or almost same time)?

I've been looking on the Heart Gallery and there is a teen that melts my heart every time that I look at his profile. I know that teens, boys, and Blacks are hard to place. He's all three. I feel like he'd be such a good match for our family. He likes sports, is polite, etc. My nephews/cousins are about his age so he'd have other kids around his age to hang out with .... but we also really have our hearts set on adopting a baby as well. We'd like to have that experience also.

My guess would be that we'd move forward with the teen's adoption first since he's already legally free (I think). That could take a year. Could we also be a concurrent planning home for the foster-adopt program while waiting to finalize his adoption? I know it would be a huge change very quickly for our family but I just feel like it's the right thing to do. Is is possible?

Am I crazy? It's okay to tell me that I am!

=)

1 dead, 4 seriously hurt in Ariz. tour bus crash

A tour bus careened off the road and crashed in northwest Arizona late Friday, killing the driver and leaving at least four passengers with serious injuries, authorities said.

About 45 other passengers were less seriously hurt and not all of them required hospital treatment, the Arizona Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. PDT on Highway 93 near Willow Beach, about 20 miles from the Nevada state line and 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas.

The bus was northbound when it went off the road and into a ravine. No other vehicles were involved.

"We believed the driver experienced some sort of the medical condition and he just went off the road," the patrol said.

The most seriously hurt were flown by helicopter to hospitals, while other passengers were taken by ground ambulance.

Six were flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where they were being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, hospital spokeswoman Danita Cohen said.

She described them as being mostly over 50 years old and suffering from broken bones and lacerations.

The patrol statement said officers were trying to determine what happened to the bus after it went off the roadway. The front end was heavily damaged.

Four hours after the crash, the bus was sitting upright about 30 feet off the shoulder of the road.

It appeared to have at first gone down a ravine before traveling up an embankment.

The highway near the crash site was reduced to one lane of traffic.

A bus crash nearby nearly four years ago killed four people.

Authorities said a charter bus carrying a group of Chinese tourists on a return trip to Las Vegas from the Grand Canyon on Jan. 30, 2009, crashed on U.S. 93 near Hoover Dam. Ten others were injured, including the driver.

Slippery Patch likely to win 80th Cesarewitch Final | bettor.com

Slippery Patch likely to win 80th Cesarewitch Final

Since June 2012, Slippery Patch has accomplished some classy feats that speak volumes of his inherent racing capabilities. From September 30 to October 13, the K. Hutton trained black and white dog marvellously won three big races in a row.

These stats show that the two-year-old veteran hound has enough potential to win the high-profile contest of the 80th Cesarewitch Final that will go down at Oxford racecourse on Saturday night.

Considering his epic track record, the bettors have picked him as the 6-4 joint favourite candidate along with Droopys Robles for this open race that contains ?1000 in the prize purse.

Over the distance of 450 metres, the brilliant dog have to face some big racing guns after breaking from Trap 3. Winning the mega final game is a grand challenge, but he is determined to accomplish it convincingly.

The son of Top Honcho out of Steamy Windows went through some intensive training during the last week with a view to build up on the momentum produced by his classy hat-trick.

With the outset of July, Slippery Patch gained a lot of momentum that helped him win The Night Of The Stars Novice 750 by a narrow margin. That race took place at Shelbourne Park.

After finishing first in a T3 race by the huge margin of 7 ? lengths, the skilled dog bagged the ace title of the Heat & Combustion Ltd Trophy - Div C by a neck?s margin.

There came a T2 victory to his way before he notched up top spot in the Superglass Trophy - 80th Cesarewitch - Heat 2 on October 13.

Despite all these factors, Slippery Patch will have to face a lot of resistance from Droopys Xavier who has a long list of podium finishes to his name.

The C. Gardiner trained black dog beautifully won Stadium Bookmakers Stayers on September 28 and went ahead to achieve the glorious title of the Ancon Cup - 80th Cesarewitch - Heat 3 on October 13.

The son of Ace Hi Rumble out of Droopys Darjina wills surly give a tough time to Slippery Patch. Thus, a neck-to-neck battle will be witnessed at Oxford. Let us enjoy it.

Motorola revises Android software update page for US devices

Hello, Moto

Motorola has once again updated their Android software upgrades page, this time filling in much of the details for U.S. devices and the Jelly Bean rollout. It's a big (and getting confusing) list, so you'll want to be sure to have a look at the source link, but we can pretty much wrap things up with the short version.

These devices are getting, or have received Jelly Bean, and if any time frame was given, it is noted

  • DROID RAZR M (XT907) -- before 2013
  • DROID RAZR HD (XT926) -- before 2013
  • DROID RAZR MAXX HD (XT926) -- before 2013
  • ATRIX HD (MB866)
  • PHOTON Q (XT897)
  • ELECTRIFY 2 (XT881)
  • DROID RAZR (XT912)
  • DROID RAZR MAXX (XT912)
  • DROID 4 (XT894)
  • DROID BIONIC (XT875)
  • MOTOROLA XOOM WiFi-Only (MZ604) -- July 2102
  • MOTOROLA XOOM WiFi + 3G/LTE (MZ600/MZ602) -- Q4 2012

As of today, if your phone or tablet (U.S. only) is not listed, the Jelly Bean update is not scheduled for you. Of course, Motorola says things are under evaluation, and subject to change.

Again -- these updates are for the U.S. only devices. Motorola hasn't updated anything about the rest of the world just yet, but looking at the list above it's pretty easy to come to a conclusion. If your phone was built after the Bionic, you might get Jelly Bean. If not, you can only hope it meets the criteria for Motorola's trade-up program

Feel free to fill the comments with opinions and rage -- just don't shoot the messenger.

Source: Motorola. Thanks everyone who sent this in!

Timely report provides a detailed and compelling overview of the landscape of next generation sequencing (NGS) technology and its clinical relevance and impact on improving patient care

Bethesda, MD, October 18, 2012 The Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) published the report of the Whole Genome Analysis (WGA) Working Group of the AMP Clinical Practice Committee in the November 2012 issue of The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics (JMD). Titled "Opportunities and Challenges Associated with Clinical Diagnostic Genome Sequencing," the timely report provides a detailed and compelling overview of the landscape of next generation sequencing (NGS) technology and its clinical relevance and impact on improving patient care. The issues addressed in the report are comprehensive, including "current technical, bioinformatic, and clinical implementation considerations, as well as medical applications, clinical utility, and ethical, legal, and education issues presented by genome-level diagnostic testing."1

NGS-related technologies and instrumentation introduced over the past decade have significantly alleviated the amount of resources required to conduct complex genomic analysis. "The possibilities of these technologies are numerous," noted, Iris Schrijver, AMP President and lead author of the report. "As the only Association whose members are experts specifically dedicated to the field of molecular pathology, AMP has the responsibility to initiate and lead the discussion on safe, effective and practical applications of next-generation sequencing."

The report illuminates the current state of NGS by calling out and highlighting the issues to be addressed in greater depth moving forward. "The next phase of reporting will include detailed studies of the validation, interpretation, and bioinformatics elements of NGS. We are excited to collaborate with other organizations to develop guidelines for application and quality assessment," said Jane Gibson, WGA Working Group Chair. "While this report is comprehensive, there is much yet to be done."

Earth 2.0: the hunt for places like home

31I-ReIwRoL._SS500_.jpg

Katie Peek, contributor

Exoplanets are the new kids on the block, but in Mirror Earth, Michael Lemonick is impressed by heartbreaking tales of careers shattered by the search

TWO decades ago, Earth was a lonely place. Our solar system was, for all we knew, the only one in the universe. In 1995, the first planet beyond our sun popped into view around the star 51 Pegasi, and a new field of astrophysics burst into life.

Since then our tally of exoplanets has grown to nearly 3000, many found by the Kepler spacecraft launched in 2009. Yet, despite this impressive rate of discovery, few people even know that Earth-like planets exist around other stars, a fact that amazed me as a graduate student planet hunter at the University of California in Berkeley.

In Mirror Earth, science writer Michael Lemonick recounts the story of exoplanet discovery. He begins when planet hunting was something few researchers were willing to risk their careers on. The tale grows as the field does - those early characters become old friends, and new ones join the fray.

His tales portray the capricious nature of scientific discovery. Time and again, we learn of a discovery - the first hot Jupiter that orbits close to its parent star, the first planet that crosses its star's face - only to meet an astronomer who realised too late that they'd had the vital data sitting on a disc somewhere, for months or even years, unanalysed. These heartbreaking stories of scientists who came so close provide a good lesson: extraordinary claims may require extraordinary evidence, but sometimes that evidence shows up unexpectedly easily.

During this journey of discovery, Lemonick adeptly gives us all the physics we need to keep up with, and be amazed by, the discoveries. Many of his metaphors, such as comparing the spectrum of wavelengths of light with the high to low pitch range of keys on a piano, feel fresh. He is unabashed by more complicated, nuanced science, too, preparing the way for the most complex astrophysics by building more complex explanations as the chapters progress. By the time we reach the end, we understand not only these phenomena, but also their significance in the overall picture of hunting for another Earth.

The story veers into name-dropping a little, but the overall effect shows how quickly exoplanets have grown into a robust subfield of astrophyics. It is a fascinating journey, and at the end of Mirror Earth, the reader is ready to be inspired by what the planet hunters will discover next. Most importantly, though, Lemonick has elegantly and convincingly captured the magnitude of the discoveries that have happened in our lifetimes.
