Dianne Bourne named 2012 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Employee of the Year

BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 23, 2012 ? Dianne Bourne, a laboratory and research specialist who has worked at Virginia Tech for more than 40 years, was recently named the 2012 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Employee of the Year. ?

Bourne, of Christiansburg, Va., supervises laboratory research in the Department of Food Science and Technology. Bourne is a leader in her department and her work was described as meticulous, scientific, and timely.

Every year the college honors a staff member who demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment, excels in professionalism, and takes the initiative to perform beyond the expectations of regular work assignments.

"Dianne employs unusual care and commitment in designing and conducting research studies," said her anonymous nominator. "The fact that our group's research is so well-respected by government agencies, private industry, and colleagues in academia is indicative of Dianne's professionalism."

Bourne critically reviews experimental designs and performs laboratory work and data analysis. She also identifies projects that are eligible for funding and assists with grant proposals.

Bourne received a $1,000 check at the college's 17th annual Celebration of the Faculty and Staff picnic.
